Visit to Parvati Hill, Pune

Yesterday I visited Parvati hills, the second highest point in Pune. The hill raises about 640 meters (80 meters from base) from Sea level, and the whole of  Pune can be seen from top of it.

Getting there

The easiest way to get there is to catch a bus to Pune station. From there take bus to SwarGate. Keep walking straight till you reach the next junction and take left and keep walking. The hill would be visible to the right. Take right and keep walking and towards the left there would be a staircase that will take you up to a little bridge. Cross the bridge towards left and keep walking and you would reach the entrance of Parvati hill and steps leading the the top of the hill (there are 103 steps),

Attractions:

This is indeed a break from the traffic and rush from this bustling city. Its ambience is quite and green and above all very clean. 

Apart from the temples, there is a museum as well, with ticket costing Rs 10.

Under the Cot

'Sssh.. ' said the maid to 8 year old Abhay. 'Sleep tight, or else Kosh will get angry.  He will crawl out from the cot's underneath and take you... '
Abhay looked at her with a reddened face. "I am scared". He said
"Then sleep"..  she commanded.
"Ok auntie.. " he mumbled and pulled his bed sheet over his face,  closing his eyes forcibly. 'Wish father and mother were at home' he thought tears rolling from his eyes.
Both his parents were out for a one week business trip and had left him under the maid's care.  'I don't like her'  he spoke to himself.  'She keeps telling about
Kosh under the cot and I get scared. '

The huge grandfather clock in the hall stuck 12:00 am. 
A heavy wind blew outside enough to shatter the window panes. The trees in the compound of the villa swayed as though they were in trance. The moon struggled out of the clouds casting shadows of the trees on the building.

Then there was lightning follows by a distant rumble. 
Abhay woke up with the thunder. The maid would be downstairs in her room..
He started shivering.
Then he heard the sound..  it started as a hiss and was resonating from the cot underneath...
Koshhhh...  koshhhhh...
He could see a small shadow emerging.. 

Matching every instance of a pattern in UNIX

For example I have a string "raghuraghuraghuhello" and I want to display the number of times 'raghu' has occurred in the string. 

We can use the below variant of grep

 echo raghuraghuraghuhello|grep -o raghu|wc -l

hadoop@ubuntu:~$ echo raghuraghuraghuhello|grep -o raghu raghu raghu raghu hadoop@ubuntu:~$ echo raghuraghuraghuhello|grep -o raghu|wc -l 3

Note: When in the first command it just printed out the instances of the pattern, hence we piped it to wc -l

Monitoring the growth of Money plant

We had planted money plant sometime back and it has grown well now. Just felt like monitoring its newly sprouting leaves. As we can see there are two new leaves. Lets see how long these will turn into complete leaves. :-)

The FLASH

Was searching Youtube for check for any interesting series (the last series that I watched till end was Breaking Bad) when I found the series "The Flash". Though this series premiered in 2014, I never heard of this series.
The trailer is pretty interesting, with the new concept for the super hero. Looking forward to watch the series!

Unix: Alias

As the name suggests Alias is another/alternate name for a command or group of commands.
To know the aliases currently, just type alias at the prompt and hit enter

hadoop@ubuntu:~$ alias

alias alert='notify-send --urgency=low -i "$([ $? = 0 ] && echo terminal || echo error)" "$(history|tail -n1|sed -e '\''s/^\s*[0-9]\+\s*//;s/[;&|]\s*alert$//'\'')"'
alias egrep='egrep --color=auto'
alias fgrep='fgrep --color=auto'
alias grep='grep --color=auto'
alias l='ls -CF'
alias la='ls -A'
alias ll='ls -alF'
alias ls='ls --color=auto'

The above gives the list of aliases that we currently have in the system. 
To create an alias, 

hadoop@ubuntu:~$ alias ll='ls -lrt'

hadoop@ubuntu:~$ ll
total 224

Notice that there shouldn't be any space between the = while setting up the alias.
